PS3's PS1 VC, but because they do so little to modify their games, even though its running off a hard drive, it'd have all of the CD-ROM load times? Isn't it just extracted from some kind of Square collection from PS1 that paired it with the SNES Final Fantasies?

Welp, what about buying said CD-ROM? Local game shops typically carry classic PS1 JRPGs for around $30.

Finally, is there more choices? PSP remake? iPad? Was there also a remake of the game for PS1 that wasn't just the chronicles port?

Square Enix has released its first patch for Chrono Trigger on PC.As outlined in a post on Steam, the update allows users to select an 'Original' graphics option from the menu, which alters the character sprites and background visuals to look more like the original SNES release.

Some other visual adjustments, including an update to the font for 'a more classic look,' is also included in the patch.
Square Enix is also working to update the UI so it's optimized for play using a keyboard or controller. These changes will be released via future patches.
Original story follows:Square Enix has shared the news that the much-maligned Chrono Trigger port on Steam will receive a patch that will add the pixel art graphics of the original game.
A series of patches are scheduled for the next few months, with the 'option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics, and the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger' rolling out in the first one.
The game's Steam release in February wasn't very well received, appearing to be a port of the mobile version.Modders got to work on fixing the graphics, which had multiple shaders applied that wrought havoc with the colours. It's not clear whether the option to revert back to the original's graphics will retain the filter, which was the crux of the issue for many players.
The patch will release 'in the first half of April,' and as a means of making up for the spate of incoming updates, Square Enix will be extending the availability of Limited Edition from April 2 to April 30.
